All eyes were focused on one spot only, as the remaining 9 teen housemates took the stage for their first concert ever. The Big Goal Concert not only showcased the budding talent of the teens, it also doubled as a fund-raiser for the Philippine Team to the Homeless World Cup to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil this September. Amazingly, the response to this worthy cause was overwhelming: over 500 Big Goal packages, each worth P 500, were sold to Kapamilyas from all over. The initial 10 Golden Seats, worth P 10,000 each, were more than doubled. Indeed, everyone pitched in to help reach a unified goal, proving yet again the power of hope, youth and Pinoys.

A day before the concert, the teens woke up to a timer flashed on the plasma screen, counting down the hours until the big concert. While they busied themselves with signing pictures and shirts, the teen ex-housemates traveled from one location to the next, personally delivering the Golden Tickets to each lucky and generous sponsor.

Finally, at 9:45 pm on the 10th of June, with the Golden Seats filled up and the house lights dimmed, the Big Goal Concert opened with a bang. Fretzie, Ivan, Jenny, Ryan and Devon opened the show, dancing with gusto to Lady Gaga’s “Telephone”. Devon was consistent in her no-nonsense attitude and Jenny showed off her flexibility, while Fretzie’s smile charmed the audience all throughout. Ivan took on an intense façade, while Ryan showed pure fun in contrast.

James, Tricia and Ann delivered their welcoming spiel with minor glitches, albeit obvious stiffness in some parts. Bret and Fretzie took center stage as they sang “Blue”, an original composition by Bret inspired by Fretzie. The unbreakable eye contact between the two had Bretzie fans giggling in their seats, and this almost made up for Fretzie’s swiveling chair and mic feedback. The rest of the world seemed to fade away with the way these teens were singing to each other. Afterwards, Bret remained onstage while Fretzie re-introduced him as “The Indie Singer of Dumaguete”. His stage presence was quite moving, as he confidently strummed his guitar and sung another original piece that had the audience clapping along.

The teens paired up as they danced to Justin Bieber’s “Baby”. Bretzie, Trivan and Kimbang swayed and jammed to the hit song. The lack of chemistry was quite obvious in Trivan, while Ryan and Jenny were obviously enjoying the moment. Bret and Fretzie, for the nth time, were really just such cuties.

Jenny and Ryan re-emerged in their ballet costumes, her in a tutu and him in an open Shakespearean top (complete with ruffled trim), both designed by Ann Li. They performed an interpretative dance, rendered in a modern ballet choreographed by Fretzie and Ann, to the tune of “Nothing on You”. Though it was their first time to do anything of the sort, especially in front pf a live audience, their humor shone through and carried the performance.

Best buddies Bret and James did a guitar duet, singing “Everybody Help Somebody”, an original song they made that was inspired by the Philippine team to the Homeless World Cup. Fretzie, Ann, Tricia and Devon backed them up, bobbing and bouncing on either side of the two. How apt was it that four members of the Philippine Team were present to witness such efforts, making every sleepless night worth it.

As the concert neared its end, Kuya himself addressed the audience and thanked them for their generosity. For the finale, all the teen housemates gathered onstage to sing The Rembrandts’ “I’ll Be There For You”, a happy song celebrating friendship and camaraderie. This theme song from the hit show “Friends” had a quirky feel to it that was echoed by the goofy poses of the teens and Kimbang’s quick rap.

A big hurrah goes out to all who supported such a worthy cause and to the teen housemates who gave time to make a difference. At sunrise, it’s back to PBB business as all await the announcement of the next teen ex-housemate on tomorrow’s live eviction night.

This Sunday, watch out for another clash between Pinoys and Teenternationals on The Big Debate, hosted by Kuya’s angel, Bianca Gonzales. It’s bound to be another eye-opener in anticipation of the upcoming Teen Big Night!
